• å sette lys på treet = to put lights around the tree  

Mannen min setter alltid lys på treet og jeg pynter treet. = My husband always put lights on the tree and I decorate the tree.

• Julepynt = christmas decorations 

Barna lager julepynt på skolen eller barnehage/barnehave* = The children make Christmas ornaments at school or kindergarten 

*barnehave = less used word for kintergarden

• Juletrepynt/pynt på treet = christmas decorations  on the tree

Det er vanlig å ha juletrepynt/pynt på treet = it is usual to have christmas decorations on the tree

• stjerne på toppen av treet = a star on top of the tree 

Mange trær har stjerne på toppen = Many trees have star on top

• gaver under treet = presents under the tree 

Vi kan finne gaver under treet. = We can find gifts under the tree.

• å apne gaver = to open presents 

Barna liker å åpne gaver hver jul. = Kids like to open gifts every Christmas.

• å pakke inn = to wrap

Mennesker \ Folk pakker inn gaver = People wrap presents

• å synge julesanger = to sing Christmas Carols  

Det er tradisjon å synge julesanger i Norge. = It is tradition to sing carols in Norway.

• Lystig \ Munter = Jolly 

Glem dine bekymringer og la oss være glade (better to say than lystig \ munter) = Leave your cares and let's be jolly  

• lag (et) = layer, party (gathering)

lystig lag = happy gathering
Vi hadde et lystig lag i går = we had a nice gathering yesterday

• Hellig = Holy 

Julen er en hellig tid for alle Kristne = Christmas is a holy time for all Christians

• Lappland = Lapland
• Nordpolen = North Pole 

I Norge nissen er (kommer) fra Nordpolen, mens i Polen folk sier han er (kommer) fra Lappland. = In Norway the Santa Claus is (coming) from North Pole while in Poland people say he is (coming) from Lapland.

• Gløgg = Mulled wine (no alcohol added, you can added it yourself or otherwise add juice concentrate, water, or other, according to your taste)

Om vinteren liker jeg å drikke gløgg = In winter I like to drink gløgg 

Hva er gløgg? Det er noe mann drikker i julehøytiden* = What is gløgg? It is something one drinks in the Christmas Holiday. 
*(=høytid: holidays, sth which you celebrate like Christmas, Easter [not summer holidays!])
