Lesson 6a: Modal Verbs

KAN – capability, possibility 

e.g. Jeg kan (ikke) lese. - I can (not) read


– must
e.g. Du må (ikke) laere norsk 
- You must learn (not) norwegian


VIL –wish, will 
e.g. Han vil (ikke) ha te med melk - He will (not) have tea with milk


SKAL – a plan (will, shall)
e.g. Max skal (ikke) vaere hjemme - Max shall (not) be home


BØR – ought to, should
e.g. Du bør sitte stille en stund – You ought to/should sit quietly a while


Some rules to remember!


TODAY:

Rule no1. After Modal Verb, VERB (minus “-r”)













Han (instead of går). - He must go.





Jeg skal rekke bussen! (instead of rekker). - I will catch the bus!



Skal
vi gå (instead of går)? - Shall we go?














Vil du gi (instead of gir) meg kaffe? -Will/Would you give me coffee?
















Kan vi gå (instead of går) på kino? - Can we go to the cinema?
