Lesson 11: HIT vs. HER & DIT vs. DER [PART 2]

HIT vs. DIT
movement from/to a place (is going to but it is still not here or there)



Examples:
  • Vil du komme hit og drikke kaffe? = Will you come here and drink coffee?
  • Det er så kaldt ute. Jeg har ikke lyst til å gå dit. Kan ikke du heller komme hit? = It's so cold outside. I do not want to go there. Can not you rather come here?
  • Jo da, jeg vil dit i kveld. = Yes, I will go there tonight.



Note: Hit & Dit you use with the verbs such as:
å dra; å flykte; å flytte; å kjøre; å komme; å reise; å gå





HER vs. DER
static in place (here or there)


Examples:
  • Er det ikke mange der hos deg? = Are there not many (people) there with you?
  • Neida, jeg er helt alene her.No, I'm all alone here


  • blomstene er der = the flowers are there
  • blomstene er her = the flowers are here


  • Hun må sitte der, men du skal sitte her = She must sit there, but you will be sitting here



Note: Her & Der you use with the verbs such as:
å bo; å ligge; å sitte; å være



HIT & HER [questions]:
  • Når kommer du hit? = when will you come here

Jeg
kommer hit... = I come here


... i dag, i sommer, i vinter

... til sommeren, til vinteren

... i neste uke


i sommer = it is already summer
til sommeren = that’s before summer


  • Når kom du hit? = When did you come here?
Jeg kom hit i forrige uke = I came here last week
[preposition “i” is used to specify certain period of time.
Is likely to answer the question: when? i.e. Jeg kommer hit (when?) i dag]

  • Alice, hvor er du? = Where are you Alice?
Jeg er her, mamma. = I'm here, Mom (the aim is to tell where she is now)




DIT & DER [questions]:

  • Når reiser du dit- When are you going there?
  • Skal du vaere der lenge? – are you going to be there long?
